gambling is as bad as alcoholism in that its legal.and online makes it easier cause he can do it right from home. He has to want to stop. see if he's willing to pack his puter away for afew months in YOUR closet.also see if he's willing to drop his auto protect on his debit card down to like a hundred bucksits hard to kick and easy to backslide. maybe get him into bingo once a week to help wean him of big money bets. (its not all old people like its stereotyped) plus its a controlled betting environment. good luck!

Hi,

Sorry to hear that you are 'going through the mill' over your friend. They are very lucky to have you - AND THEY WILL NEED YOU.

- Firstly there is not a lot you can do , they themselves HAVE TO ADMIT THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM AND THE CHANCES ARE THEY WILL NOT.

You can tell them till you are blue in the face that there is an issue and they won't believe you.

Advice that is practicable? Well YOU can contact Gamblers ANON for general advice they can give help & support.

As for trying to close his account etc - don't bother - people with addictions will be VERY devious and what ever you do they will have at least three ways to get round it.

One thing that I will say is UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES LEND THEM MONEY EVEN IF THEY SAY ITS FOR FOOD ETC, AS THEY WILL GAMBLE IT AWAY. Also if you have any financial commitments with them, try and get out of it & protect yourself - Just in case.

All the best & hope it works out for you and your mate.

If your friend is over 18. You can only try to talk to him, keep him occupied as much as possible, and be very supportive in regards to other hobbies he might have. Also, you may want to consider getting some brochures or information from local gamblers support groups.
